Chapter 01
What kind of key you have decides the price, not how far we drive
There are four tiers. Older non-transponder keys are a cut blade and nothing else, and they are the least expensive key there is. Transponder chip keys, standard from the early to mid 2000s onward, have to be programmed to the vehicle, so there is bench time on top of the cut. Remote-head keys put the remote and the key in one piece, so you are paying for both halves at once. Push-to-start fob systems are the most involved of the four, with the most equipment and the highest parts cost.
That is why the first question on the phone is the year, make and model. Without it, any number quoted is a guess.

All-keys-lost is a different job from adding a spare
If one key still turns, we duplicate and program alongside it, which is the faster and cheaper of the two situations. If every key is gone, the key has to be originated from scratch against the vehicle.
We do both, including on newer vehicles. Some manufacturers restrict their security software, or require dealership only equipment and online verification on brand new models. Where that is the case we will tell you on the phone rather than after we have arrived.
Chapter 03
The cutting bench travels to you
Technicians carry the key cutting equipment and the programming tools in the van. In most cases a brand new key is cut and programmed on the same visit, at your home, your workplace, a parking lot or a tow yard.
No tow, and no leaving the car somewhere overnight while a dealership orders parts.
Broken keys and dead remotes are this job too
A key snapped off in the door, the trunk or the ignition, and a remote that has stopped talking to the car, are handled on the same call out. If the blade has broken inside a lock, extraction comes first and the new key follows.
